Another Cisco Cert. - CCNS

Solaris (tm) on Intel dropped
Sun Microsystems has dropped Solaris on Intel (aka Solaris x86). The company will no longer support the Intel platform after Solaris 8. It will come as a blow to many people who install Solaris on PCs to study for their Sun Sys. Admin. Certifications. For the majority of self learning students the cost of Sun Sparc hardware is prohibitive.
Save Solaris x86 gives further details.
Redhat 7.2

Cisco revamp CCIE
In an effort to reduce the waiting list for the CCIE lab exam Cisco has reduced it to a single day (9 hour day) exam. The bad news for CCIE wannabes is that it hasn't gotten any easier. Cisco has shortened the lab by removing the stuff that most people used to get right such as the physical cabling and IP addressing.
Cheekily the cost of the exam has remained the same but Cisco claim companies will see reduced costs by having employees out for only one day, and failed students will not have to re-arrange travel and hotel bookings (day one failures were not allowed into the lab on day 2). Most controversial of all is the removal of a specific troubleshooting section as the final phase of the lab. Cisco argues the new intensive format will place a premium on troubleshooting skills anyway as students battle against the clock to complete the configuration tasks.
Juniper launch cert program
Juniper Networks has launched it's TCP program which comprises an entry level Certified Internet Specialist based around a 90 minute online test, and a Certified Internet Expert which requires candidates to attend a two day lab based examiniation, not unlike the Cisco CCIE program.
